Wootten, Sir George Frederick CBE, DSO & BAR, DSO, KBE (Major General, b.1893 - d.1970)
This collection includes certificates and citations for various awards, and papers related to the war of 1939-1945 including: original instruments of surrender of the Japanese at Sandakan, and at British Borneo and Natoena Islands; letters from commanders of Australian and American forces; letters to his wife (includes the mention of their son's death); signals and messages of congratulations regarding successful military operations (including letters from Lord Birdwood); copies of war crimes documents; routine orders; statement of service; and various documents regarding the closing stages of the war in the Pacific, the surrender of the Japanese, and post-surrender activities. Also includes news clippings, a copy of 'World Reunion : Rats of Tobruk Association 1986' souvenir program, and a personal diary for 1967.
