Australia : National Emergency Service : Armband : 1939-45
A yellow cotton armband with four thin cotton tapes to tie it around the arm. All edges of the armband are sewn. Centrally printed in black are the letters "N.E.S.".
Associated with the wartime service of Tom Alan Ramsey Saywell, who was a member of the National Emergency Service (NES) during the Second World War. Saywell acted as a Deputy Head Warden and later Group Warden of Sector A, Group 6, Vaucluse NES in the city of Sydney. Saywell's records reveal he spent much of his time in training (first aid, identification of gas bombs etc), black out and air raid exercises, and chasing down materials for equipping his unit. NES groups purchased their own equipment, from fire buckets to first aid tables, and were reimbursed by the parent organisation.
