Description

Wyton, England. 1945-05-08. A large group gathered outside the mess at the RAF station around a raised platform from which hang life size dummies of Mussolini (left), Hitler (centre) and Tojo (right). The men are enjoying drinks to celebrate Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Included in the group are Group Captain Dean RAF, Station Commanding Officer, who is giving a V for Victory sign (as are a couple of the other men), Flying Officer John Flowers RAAF, navigator, No. 128 Squadron RAF (sixth from left), Air Vice Marshal Don C. T. Bennett RAAF CB, CBE, DSO, AOC (Air Officer Commanding) Group 8 RAF (in front of the right pole) and his two children who live at the RAF station.
