Description

Bismarck Sea. 1943-03-03. Two water spouts from high level bombing, probably from USAAF Boeing B17 Flying Fortress aircraft, almost hide a Japanese merchant ship. It is also being strafed by a Beaufighter aircraft No. 30 Squadron RAAF and a USAAF Mitchell B25 aircraft coming around to make a low level attack during the Battle for the Bismarck Sea. The Battle was fought about forty miles north west of Buna when a large Japanese convoy re-supplying Buna was attacked by Allied aircraft. (Donor F. Cassidy)
