Description

Smachette fighting knife. Oval disc shaped cross-guard separates the heavy alloy hilt from the blade. The grips are made from wood and are secured by four rivets. The pommel and grips are loose. The pommel is stamped with an arrow over 9. The blade is a plain leaf shape with a double edge. The blade and pommel show signs of hammering.

History / Summary

This knife was carried by the donor, Corporal Reginald Trevor Petteit, NX173963 (SRD no. 167) while a member of "Z" Special "Salmon 3", who were on their way to Sukin Island to take part in operations against the Japanese on Flores when peace was declared. This type of knife was used by independent and commando units of the Commonwealth and the United States during the Second World War.
