Description

Japanese prisoners held at the RAN War Criminal Compound at an RAN shore base use a table tennis table in the recreation room at the compound to sort out and distribute beer and other comfort parcels provided by the International Red Cross, Tokyo. Work on this RAN base commenced in August 1948. It was commissioned as HMAS Seeadler on 1 January 1950 and recommissioned as HMAS Tarangau on 1 April 1950. The name was transferred from the decommissioned RAN Base at Dreger Harbour, New Guinea. (Navy Historical Collection)
