Description
A barbed wire fence surrounds a caged area of the RAN War Criminal Compound at an RAN shore base where Japanese prisoners were held. The building in the background is the cafeteria. Work on this RAN base commenced in August 1948. It was commissioned as HMAS Seeadler on 1 January 1950 and recommissioned as HMAS Tarangau on 1 April 1950. The name was transferred from the decommissioned RAN Base at Dreger Harbour, New Guinea. (Navy Historical Collection)
