Description

Informal group portrait of officers of the destroyer HMAS Nestor on board HMS Javelin. HMAS Nestor came under aerial attack whilst on convoy duty in the Mediterranean on 15 June 1942. Badly damaged in the attack, she was taken in tow by the RN destroyer HMS Javelin but despite untiring and valiant efforts by her crew it was decided she should be abandoned. Shortly after 7am on 16 June 1942 Nestor's company was removed and the ship sunk by Javelin in a position 115 miles north east of Tobruk.
