Qld. 1944-09-24. Navigator of Martin PBM Mariner flying boat aircraft, serial no. A70-5, registration VHCPE, of No. 41 (Transport Sea) Squadron RAAF stationed at Cairns, in flight to Port Moresby. Warrant Officer A. R. Hudson of Belmore, NSW, makes routine use of his navigation computer to obtain corrected air speed, after due allowance has been made for position error, height, and temperature. This is important: in certain circumstances an indicated 130 knots can "correct up" to 165, or even higher.
