Dutch New Guinea. 1944-09-22. American GI passengers aboard Martin PBM Mariner flying boat aircraft, serial no. A70-5, of No. 41 (Transport Sea) Squadron RAAF based at Cairns, flying from Port Moresby to Hollandia. This bunch of US soldiers made themselves moderately comfortable in the waist compartment, spread a blanket over the canvas drogmes and cordage, and out came a deck of cards. Private Jack C. Church of 309 Van Dorn Street, Corbin, Kentucky, USA, is second left.
