Costello, John (Gunner, b.1913 - d.1945)
Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX21581 Gunner John Costello, 2/10 Field Regiment. Collections consists of four letters (2 are photocopies) written home to Costello's mother and sister, during his training at Grovely Camp Queensland, during 1941 and 1942. Topics include: gas training, later rioting between members of the AIF and Militia, and befriending some American servicemen. Also included are three POW lettercards sent from Borneo after he was captured. Gnr Costello died on 21 June 1945 as a POW at Sandakan, Borneo.
