Description
Hiro, Honshu, Japan, c. 1950-09. Members of the recently-formed Medium Machine Gun Platoon of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), strip, clean and reassemble their .303 Vickers medium machine guns at Morshead Barracks. Several of the weapons and their tripods are set out the ground, while smaller parts are laid out on blankets. As a precaution against fire, a number of 44-gallon drums filled with water and with the word 'Fire' written in large letters on them stand outside the barracks buildings. The soldiers have just returned from Haramura where they took part in a training exercise in preparation for 3RAR's move to Korea from BCOF.
