Description
Honshu, Japan, c. 1950-09. Standing in a dugout overlooking the Japanese countryside, two armourers from the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), work with a .303 Vickers medium machine gun. The soldier at left is 2/949 Corporal G.F. ('Fibber') McGee. The soldiers are probably adjusting the weapon's sights, checking its range by firing at targets in the valley below. Boxes of ammunition lie on the wall of the dugout (right). The men are testing the weapon for 3RAR's Medium Machine Gun Section which has just been formed in preparation for the battalion's move to Korea from BCOF.
