Description
Korea, c. 1950-12. At an open air mess parade, members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), eat standing up at a long makeshift table on which their mugs and dixies are resting. The table has been set up by laying a series of boards on top of 44-gallon drums. Two of the men are eating pieces of chicken in their fingers. As protection against the cold, the soldiers are wearing padded windproof jackets and various kinds of headgear including pile caps, hoods and caps. A blanket of snow covers the landscape in the background, while at left a bed of straw has been laid on the ground to help keep the soldiers' shoes and feet dry and warm.
