Description
Korea, c. 1950-12. At an open air mess parade, members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), eat standing up at long makeshift tables on which their mugs and dixies are resting. The tables have been set up by laying a series of boards on top of 44-gallon drums. A bed of straw has been laid on the ground to help keep the soldiers' shoes and feet dry and warm. As additional protection against the cold, most of the soldiers are wearing padded windproof jackets and various kinds of headgear including pile caps, beanies, hoods and caps. Standing amidst the snow-covered landscape in the background are the houses of a small village (left) and some of 3RAR's hoochies (right).
