Description
Korea, c. 1950-12. In a snow-covered landscape, three members of the Machine Gun Section, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), change the breech block of a .303 Vickers medium machine gun. The Vickers, set up on a tripod, has a flash suppressor fitted to its muzzle and a woollen sleeve wrapped around its barrel to prevent its water coolant from freezing. Boxes of ammunition and a can of water sit in the snow at left. The soldiers are wearing variously windproof jackets, gloves, pile caps and a beanie to help keep themselves warm.
