Sitting on a bed of straw near his hoochie (right), 2/2680 Corporal (Cpl) Tim Daly, a member of the Machine Gun Platoon, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), sends or receives a message on his radio set. An open cardboard box possibly of C rations lies at left, while some gloves and other clothing lie on the ground at right. Behind the soldier is a spool with some telephone cable wound on it. Cpl Daly, who is smoking a cigarette, is wearing a padded windproof jacket and a pile cap to help keep himself warm.
