Description
Korea, c. 1951-02. Cigarette in hand, 2/2680 Corporal (Cpl) Tim Daly, a member of the Machine Gun Platoon, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), rests on the floor of his dugout. In front of him are a radio set (partly visible at left), the handle of a spade or trenching tool and some belt ammunition. Above his head are some tins of food, a satchel and the barrel of a .303 rifle leaning against the stem of a small tree. A .303 Vickers medium machine gun is set up on its tripod at top, with boxes of ammunition scattered around it and a small patch of late winter snow lying on the ground nearby. Cpl Daly is wearing a pile cap and padded windproof jacket as protection against the cold.
