Description
Korea, c. 1950-11. Members of the Machine Gun Platoon, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), wend their way up a hill followed by porters of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Service Corps. The soldier in the lead (left) is carrying the tripod of a .303 Vickers machine gun on his back, while the soldier third in line is loaded up with a satchel, pack, rifle and ammunition box. The man behind him is carrying a Vickers machine gun over his shoulder, and another soldier further back has a pick on his shoulder. Below the men are the thatch-roofed houses of a village and, beyond the village, paddy fields stretch away to hills in the distance.
