Description
Korea, c. 1951-02. Members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), occupy a bivouac site on the side of a steep slope. The trees on the slope have been blackened and broken and much of the other vegetation burned away by a napalm strike. The soldiers have used a tarpaulin attached to poles to mount a crude windbreak behind which they may be cooking a meal. Some tins of food and dixies lie on the ground at left. The soldiers are wearing padded windproof jackets and pile caps as protection against the winter cold. (Donor I. Robertson)
