Australian Army DPCU brassard : United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC)
Australian Army brassard in disruptive pattern camouflage uniform (DCPU). The brassard has two patches sewn on it, a round blue and white United Nations patch above a rectangular Australian patch. This patch is dark green edged with yellow cotton. In the centre is a red kangaroo in front of crossed swords. Below is the word 'AUSTRALIA', woven in white thread.
The wearer was a Australian member of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia. UNTAC was a multinational force responsible for organising and overseeing elections, protecting human rights, maintaining law and order and rehabilitating the infastructure of the newly democratic Cambodia. It was led by an Australian, Lieutenant General John Sanderson, and ran from February 1992 to September 1993.
