Description

Hill 355 area, Korea, 1952-04. View of 'Jive Ridge' from the position occupied by D Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), on 'Cemetery Ridge'. Defended by the battalion's 2 and 3 Platoons, 'Jive Ridge' was a low ridge that ran between 'Cemetery Ridge' and the dominating feature known as Hill 227 ('Fanny Hill'). At left is part of 'Mine Valley', so named because it was heavily sown with land mines. Some military vehicles associated with a 3RAR camp, possibly that of 'A' Company, are visible in the background (left). The names for the ridges, hills and valley were colloquial terms or nicknames bestowed on them by the soldiers.
