Description
Hill 355 area, Korea, 1952-04. The bath house for 'A' Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), on the reverse or southern slope of 'Cemetery Ridge'. The bath house consists of a low thatched structure resembling a large haystack, while in the foreground (right) a 44-gallon drum cut in half lengthways serves as a bath tub. The tub is filled with hot water from which steam is rising. At left and right are piles of discarded boxes, crates and other rubbish. 'Cemetery Ridge' was a soldiers' nickname for a ridge that ran in front of the dominating feature known as Hill 227 ('Fanny Hill') which was strongly held by Communist Chinese troops.
