Description
Hill 355 area, Korea, 1952-04. Lance Corporal 'Darky' Poynton, a member of 'A' Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), stands beside a sign that warns: 'Under enemy observation next 6 miles'. The road ran in the vicinity of 'Cemetery Ridge' and 'Mine Valley', the soldiers' nicknames for two areas that were dominated by Communist Chinese troops occupying the high feature known as Hill 227 ('Fanny Hill'). A jeep bearing the white star insignia of the US Army is partly visible at left.
