Korea, c. 1952-05. The two halves of a 44-gallon drum cut lengthways serve as laundry washing tubs for 'A' Company, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR). The tubs are set up over log fires to heat the water in them. Clothes are hanging on clothes lines suspended from metal poles and, at right, a Korean boy in Australian Army uniform is leaning over a container that he may be using as a laundry basket. In the background, another two Koreans boys are washing clothes in a pool or large puddle beside the road. A jeep is parked on the road at rear (left). The three teenage Korean boys attached themselves to 'A' Company in early 1951 and were employed on administrative duties. They were not armed nor officially paid, but the company looked after them. One of the boys later became a university professor.
