Description

A Telstra satellite receiving and transmitting dish at the headquarters of the Australian Army contingent to the United Nations Assistance Mission In Rwanda (UNAMIR). This dish provided an independent communications link between Kigali and Australia and was maintained and operated by Royal Australian Signal Corps (RASIG) personnel. Separate to official communications traffic members of the Australian contingent could purchase Telecom phone cards and via this dish and portable commercial commercial telephones call home to Australia at any time.
