Description
Kibeho, Rwanda. 1995-05. An Australian soldier of the Australian Medical Support Force (AMFS) standing amidst the remains of a refugee camp. Two weeks earlier this had been the site of a riot and subsequent massacre. The soldier is wearing a United Nations (UN) blue helmet, and Australian Army issue camouflage uniform, flak jacket and carries his army issue Steyr rifle. He is also wearing a face mask and protective gloves because of the threat of disease. The AMFS was Australia's contribution to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda (UNAMIR).
