Collection relating to Albert Bissett Amess
Informal outdoors portrait at a country racecourse or showground of a large group of male officers and civilian men and women dignitaries (left), with a group of soldiers from various Light Horse units who are standing at ease (right). The light horsemen are all wearing bandoliers across their chests and some are holding lances to which pennants are attached. These men are probably the training staff for reinforcements to the Australian companies of the Imperial Camel Corps. A senior officer and a lady, who is holding a posy of flowers, are mounted on a camel (left) which may have been borrowed from a local circus for training purposes. Some of the other women are also holding posies, while some of the officers are members of the New South Wales Lancers. They are distinguished by the squarish shape of the unit's elephant insignia or badge on their hats. (Original print housed in AWM Archive Store)
