Description
Madang, New Guinea, 1945-09-15. A well-constructed latrine or dunny at Headquarters, RAAF Northern Command (NORCOM). The latrine consists of a timber frame with hessian walls and a corrugated iron roof. It was known colloquially as the 'Boston' because it had three seats just like the Douglas Boston aircraft. The two men inside the latrine are Johnny Coape Smith (left) and 82586 Flying Officer Allen Robert Griffiths, Administrative and Special Duties (A&SD) Intelligence.
