Description
Madang, New Guinea, 1945-08-03. Stark naked, 82586 Flying Officer (FO) Allen Robert Griffiths (left), Administrative and Special Duties (A&SD) Intelligence, Headquarters, RAAF Northern Command (NORCOM), performs some carpentry on a homemade woodworking bench at NORCOM Headquarters. Eric Pidgeon stands fully clothed beside him (right). A plane rests on the bench next to FO Griffiths, while another woodworking bench stands in the foreground. At rear, clothes hang out to dry on clothes lines strung between palm trees. The bamboo framework for a hut stands in the background (centre) and next to it (right) a tent. Because of the heat, many RAAF members took to leaving their clothes off when they were off duty.
