Description
Madang, New Guinea, 1945-12-25. Interior of the Officers' Mess at Headquarters, RAAF Northern Command (NORCOM), decorated for Christmas. Streamers improvised from some sort of local grass hang down from the roof rafters, a row of flags hangs as bunting (left) and, mounted on the rear wall, are a wooden Christmas tree and a sign which reads in part: 'New year'. Tables and chairs are set out in the mess, with a jug and and mugs neatly arranged on the trestle tables at centre.
