Description

Garoka, New Guinea, 1945-11. The RAAF Aircrew Rest Camp known as 'Lamana', meaning 'Eternal Springs', which is located in the highlands at an altitude of 5,000 feet. Well-tended rows of shrubs, part of the camp's elaborate gardens, line the pathways, while in the background stand several thatched sleeping huts or dormitories. A flag hangs limply from a flagpole at extreme right.
