Description

Kure, Japan. 1955-01-31. The Pay Section of HQ British Commonwealth Forces, Korea (BCFK), withdraws British Armed Forces Special Vouchers (BAFSVs) from circulation because of their worn condition, and destroys them. These vouchers, valued on Sterling basis, are used to pay Commonwealth troops. It is illegal to use them for transactions with the Japanese public. Their destruction is supervised by high ranking officers. The BAFSVs are perforated before destruction. They are then packed in bundles of given amounts and checked off once more against documents prior to being taken under armed guard to the incinerator. Shown, Lieutenant Colonel W. Watson, Deputy Financial Advisor to the Commander-in-Chief (1); and Lieutenant Colonel C. W. B. Gilbert, Assistant Adjutant-General HQ BCFK (4), supervising the loading of BAFSVs into a vehicle for transport to the incinerators. Carrying the bundles is Corporal J. Englefreit, Royal Australian Army Service Corps (2).
