Description

Kure, Japan. 1955-01-31. The pay section of HQ British Commonwealth Forces, Korea (BCFK), from time to time, withdraws British Armed Forces Special Vouchers (BAFSV's) from circulation because of their worn condition and destroys them. These vouchers, valued on sterling basis, are used to pay Commonwealth troops. It is illegal to use them for transactions with the Japanese public. Their destruction is supervised by high ranking officers. Shown, vehicle loaded with BAFSVs for destruction, outside the incinerator. Lieutenant Colonel C. W. B. Gilbert, Assistant Adjutant General, HQ BCFK (3) is checking the bundles out of the vehicle while Captain J. S. Grosvenor (2) and Major W. Sutton (4) carry the bundles to the furnance door.
