Description

Manuscript titled `Me We Us and Co: Rueben Gordon's War' describes experiences with L Special (or Heavy) Battery manning the fortress at Praed Point, New Britain. Mentions feelings about being sent as a militia unit rather than AIF; Japanese air raids and the destruction of the fortress; movement to Rabaul and subsequent three months escaping from the invading forces. Describes difficulties of the terrain; receiving assistance from natives; witnessing the massacre at Tol-Tol plantation; eventual rescue and kindness of Cairns' civilians upon return.
