History / Summary

The AVT40 was the select fire version of the SVT40 and they are outwardly identical. Only a small number were made with the select fire mechanism as the rifle was rather frail in construction. The rifle served with Soviet forces during the later half of the second world war but was soon replaced by more efficient weapons after the cessation of hostilities. The rifle appears to have been refurbished for commercial sale.
