Description
Palembang, Sumatra. C. 1942-04. Formal group portrait of British, Australian, and New Zealand officers and their Japanese guards at Mulo prisoner of war (POW) camp. The photograph was taken by a Japanese guard and a copy presented by the camp Commandant to one of the Allied prisoners who later gave a copy to the donor. Mulo was previously a school run by the Dutch. Note most of the men seem reasonably fit and well fed in this early stage of their captivity. (Donor: I. Ellis)
