Description

Lee-Enfield No 4 Mk 1* (T) Sniper Rifle. Receiver butt socket strap stamped M 47 C over 1943 over the serial number and TR. Butt wrist stamped with the telescope number 11142 and S.51 underneath. This rifle is fitted with a Number 32 telescopic sight, accessioned as REL/19546.003 and has a cheek piece screwed to the butt.

History / Summary

The markings on this rifle indicate that it was manufactured at the Birmingham Small Arms factory at Shirley in England (M 47 C) and set up as a sniper rifle by Holland and Holland of London, England (S.51) with a No 32 telescopic sight. The No 4 Mk1*(T) rifle was not used by Australian forces during the Second World War, although a few were encountered in Korea with the British and Canadian troops.
