Description
Kut-el-Amira, Mesopotamia. c. 1917-02. Water logged ground surrounding the tent lines of the 1st Wireless Signal Squadron, Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force. The Squadron was supporting the British Cavalry Division (6th and 7th Cavalry Brigades) with communications during operations around Kut. The original caption noted that the mud was so tenacious that an hour's rain was sufficient to immobilise troops for a week.
