Kut-el-Amara, Mesopotamia. c. 1917-01. Elevated view of the plains around Sanniyat (Fort Abdul Wahad) looking towards Kut. This was the scene of a large bombardment by members of the British Cavalry Division (6th and 7th Cavalry Brigades), Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force, on Turkish positions. The Cavalry were supported by members of the 1st Wireless Signal Squadron who provided communication from the field back to Headquarters.
