Kut-el-Amara, Mesopotamia. ?1920. Aerial view of the peninsula of Kut downstream from where the Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force constructed a bridge at Shumran on 1917-02-23 during their advance on Baghdad. During the fighting with the Turks the area was extensively damaged by shellfire but in this post-war photograph the area has been restored to `peace and prosperity'.
