Description
Shumran, Mesopotamia. 1917-02. Clouds of smoke billow into the sky from fire surrounding a British fly boat on the Tigris River. Members of the 1st Wireless Signal Squadron supporting the British Cavalry Division (part of the Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force) were ordered to erect a mobile wireless station to advise the boat that they were very near the Cavalry. This was a difficult job for the communications unit because the boat had been so long out of action they were not in possession of their wireless call signals.
