Samarra (Samarrah), Mesopotamia. 1917. Members of the Mesopotamian Expeditionary Force gather around the entrance to the Canteen tent. Amongst them were probably members the 1st Wireless Signal Squadron. Note the bicycles as well as horses and horse drawn wagons amongst the tents. Being at a railhead this canteen usually had good stocks and was rushed by troops returning from operations.
