Description
Rangoon, Burma, c. 1945-08. A RAF aircraft marshaller (centre) uses a pair of flags to direct a Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-57 'Topsy' transport aircraft to its parking place on the edge of the runway after it has landed at Mingaladon airfield. Another RAF serviceman stands with a Sten gun (right). At rear, one of the aircraft's crew members is standing up in the open escape hatch or emergency exit on top of the cockpit. The aircraft is one of two that are carrying Japanese envoys, including Lieutenant General Tokaza Numata, Chief of Staff of the Japanese South-East Asia Command, who are to surrender local Japanese forces in a formal signing ceremony.
