Description
Rangoon, Burma, c. 1945-08. A Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-57 'Topsy' transport aircraft comes to a stop on the runway after landing at Mingaladon airfield. A British Army soldier (left) and several RAF servicemen (right) are walking across the landing strip near the aircraft, one of whose crew members is standing up in the open escape hatch or emergency exit on top of the cockpit. The aircraft is one of two that are carrying Japanese envoys, including Lieutenant General Tokaza Numata, Chief of Staff of the Japanese South-East Asia Command, who are to surrender local Japanese forces in a formal signing ceremony.
