Description
Rangoon, Burma, c. 1945-08. A group of Japanese and British servicemen stands beside a Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-57 'Topsy' transport aircraft which has just landed at Mingaladon airfield. The men are (left to right): a British Army corporal; a pilot of the Imperial Japanese Army; a Japanese soldier; a RAF flight lieutenant; a RAF flight sergeant. The aircraft is one of two that are carrying Japanese envoys, including Lieutenant General Tokaza Numata, Chief of Staff of the Japanese South-East Asia Command, who are to surrender local Japanese forces in a formal signing ceremony. A green surrender cross has been painted on the fuselage of the aircraft. (Donor W. Mulford) (Original print held in AWM Archive Store)
