Description
Rangoon, Burma, c. 1945-08. After arriving by air at Mingaladon airfield, a party of Japanese envoys (centre, right) heads towards a special tent where they will surrender local Japanese forces in a formal signing ceremony. The party, which has been flown to the airfield in two Mitsubishi Ki-57 'Topsy' transport aircraft (not in view), includes Lieutenant General Tokaza Numata, Chief of Staff of the Japanese South-East Asia Command. A special guard made up of RAf or British Army servicemen stands (centre, left), while several photographers are taking photographs with their cameras (left). (Donor W.
