Description
Rangoon, Burma, c. 1945-08. Three Japanese soldiers (left) and two members of No. 357 Special Duties (SD) Squadron RAF (right) stand on Mingaladon airfield prior to the take-off of one of the squadron's Westland Lysander IIIA aircraft. One such Lysander is standing in the background. The three Japanese are about to be flown to remote areas of Burma where they will be parachuted in to Japanese forces who have not yet surrendered in order to tell them that the war has ended. The two RAF servicemen are handling one of the parachutes that the Japanese will use. (Donor W. Mulford) (Original print held in AWM Archive Store)
