Description
Rangoon, Burma, c. 1945-08. Three Japanese soldiers and a member of No. 357 Special Duties (SD) Squadron RAF (right) stand on Mingaladon airfield prior to the Japanese leaving on a flight aboard one of the squadron's Westland Lysander IIIA aircraft (not in view). The three Japanese are about to be flown to remote areas of Burma where they will be parachuted in to Japanese forces who have not yet surrendered in order to tell them that the war has ended. As one of the Japanese soldiers (right) smiles for the photograph, another (left) holds a rolled-up white surrender flag that he will take with him on the mission. (Donor W. Mulford) (Original print held in AWM Archive Store)
