Description

Probably Rangoon, Burma, c. 1945-08. A uniformed soldier, who is either a Gurkha or a Burmese irregular, is handed an American M1 carbine as he climbs into the cabin of a Westland Lysander IIIA aircraft of No. 357 Special Duties (SD) Squadron, probably at Mingaladon airfield. The man may be a member of a small party of soldiers who are about to be flown to a remote area of Burma to operate against remnant Japanese forces. (Donor W. Mulford) (Original negative held in AWM Archive Store)
